About Rolling Oak Brewing Co.
Rolling Oak Brewing Co. pours its beer inside Grayling's historic ice house, a building about a century old on Norway Street downtown. Ice cut from Lake Margrethe was once packed in sawdust here and loaded onto refrigerated railcars, and the cool building later kept beer cold for the town. The brewery was started by a home brewer and has kept much of the old building's character.
Every beer is an original recipe. The flagships are the Range 13 IPA, a Peanut Butter Porter, GoodAle, a cream ale brewed with donuts from GoodAles Bakery, and the Bare Ass Beach Blonde, and the tap list rotates around them. Rolling Oak also makes cider, wine, mead, hard seltzer and non-alcoholic sodas, including a house root beer, so there is something for everyone at the table. Beer goes home in growlers, crowlers and howlers, and it is poured at bars across northern Michigan.
There is seating inside and outside, with classic board games to borrow. A food truck on the patio serves meals from Wednesday through Saturday. The brewery aims to welcome families as well as beer fans.
Uncommon Ranch, the lavender farm on Chase Bridge Road, is about 20 minutes southeast of downtown. In July, pick lavender during its summer open days, then come back to town for a root beer or a flight at the ice house.
