About Grayling Restaurant
Grayling Restaurant has been feeding people on Michigan Avenue since 1937, and the restaurant's own history page shows the storefront in photos from 1939 and 1955. Jim and Joyce Bourrie bought it in January 1970 and ran it with their family for years. It closed in September 2012 and later reopened under new owners, a family group with Bridget Harland as day-to-day manager, who brought back several longtime staff.
This is a breakfast-and-lunch place. The dish it is known for is the Lumberjack Breakfast, served at any hour the kitchen is open, You can eat in or carry out, and orders can be placed online through their website.
Hours are simple: every day of the week from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. That makes it a reliable early start before a day of paddling the Au Sable, or a hearty lunch downtown. The restaurant has supported local causes such as the county animal shelter.
Uncommon Ranch is about 20 minutes east on the edge of the Huron National Forest. Uncommon Ranch's 2026 summer open days ran Wednesday to Saturday, 10 to 4, through August 8, with pick-your-own lavender; its lodging is open all year. Breakfast here and a morning among the lavender rows is a natural plan in July.
