About Wraxall Vineyard
Wraxall Vineyard was planted in 1974 on a steep hillside near Shepton Mallet, making it one of the oldest vineyards in Somerset. It makes still and sparkling wines, including Wraxall Sparkling, a rosé and a Bacchus white, and the slopes look out over the Somerset Levels.
Guided tastings of the still and sparkling range run year-round, Wednesday to Saturday at 11:45am and 1pm, and vineyard tours with a walk through the vines run from April to October, Wednesday to Saturday at 11am and 2:30pm. Each takes about 45 minutes, and both must be booked online in advance, for groups of up to 10. Larger groups can arrange private visits on other days.
The View@Wraxall, the café-bar overlooking the vines, serves food and drinks from 10am Wednesday to Sunday, staying open until 10pm Thursday to Saturday, with a steak night on Thursdays; the wine shop sits alongside. The calendar includes music and food evenings, talks and workshops. You can stay on the vineyard in shepherd's huts or one of three cottages. Leashed dogs are welcome, and water bowls are put out at The View.
Somerset Lavender at Faulkland is about 30 minutes north, so a summer day could start with a vineyard tour here and end among the lavender.
