About White Row Farm Shop & Café

White Row is a family-owned working farm just outside Frome that opened its farm shop in July 2000 in a converted farrowing house beside the busy A36 roundabout. It grew from there: a grant in 2003 paid for a café, a butchery and a garden and gift shop, and later came a covered outdoor seating area, a fish and chip counter and a florist.

The farm still supplies much of what is sold. Its pigs, Large Whites crossed with Duroc and Landrace, are sold only through the on-site butchery, eggs are collected every morning, and vegetables, salads and herbs come from the fields. More than 80 local makers, farmers and growers fill in the rest, from bread and milk to confectionery, and there is a deli counter and a fishmonger working from daily catches.

The café uses that produce in its seasonal menus. Breakfast is served every day until 11:30am, lunch follows, and the café runs until 4pm; on Sundays a roast is served from noon to 3pm, then coffee and cake until 4pm. A separate fish and chip menu runs Monday to Saturday, and takeaway food can be eaten at the picnic tables. Tables aren't booked in advance, and there are smaller portions for children. Dogs are welcome in all the outdoor areas, including the outside eatery.

Somerset Lavender at Faulkland is about 4 miles west along country lanes, roughly 10 to 15 minutes by car, so lunch here pairs neatly with an afternoon in the lavender fields in summer.
