About Zorvino Vineyards

Zorvino Vineyards began when Jim and Cheryl Zanello bought 80 acres in Sandown in 2000, planted a small vineyard and built a house. Jim's winemaking hobby grew into a winery about four years later, and the name blends the family name, Zorzanello, with the Italian word for wine. Their daughter Amy now runs the business, which is still family-owned. Jim designed the post-and-beam building himself, using timber from the property.

The winery makes more than 60 wines and around 7,000 cases a year, using fruit from its two-acre vineyard of hybrid vines along with grapes from other growing regions. It is known for fruit wines and limited releases, and what is open on the tasting table changes each week, so call to find out what's pouring. Wine flights are offered, and indoor tables can be reserved for an hour and a half.

The grounds are made for lingering: a gazebo overlooking the vines, a koi pond, archways lined with vines, a sunny patio that closes for winter, fire pits and bocce courts. When there is no wedding on the calendar, the winery serves casual bistro meals. It hosts more than 100 events a year, from weddings to food and wine pairing dinners and a free Author's Night with local and national writers; reservations are required for events, and they fill quickly. Large groups can book private tastings on weekday evenings after 5 pm.

Lavender Fields at Pumpkin Blossom Farm in Warner, the nearest lavender farm in our directory, is roughly an hour and 15 minutes northwest, so plan a full summer day if you want to pick lavender there and end with dinner here.
