About Doe Orchards
Doe Orchards is a 60-acre family farm on Ayer Road in Harvard. O. C. Doe and his sons Whit and Bill started it two generations ago as Hawbuck Orchards; the land left the family for a short time and came back to the Does in 1978. Pick-your-own apples have been part of the farm since the 1960s, and over the years it has added other fruit and tree crops.
The picking season starts around July 4 with blueberries and raspberries, open Tuesday through Saturday from 9 to 4; raspberries go quickly, while blueberries carry on into August. Yellow and white peaches follow in August. Apples begin in late August with Gingergold, Gravenstein, Honeycrisp and Golden Supreme, then McIntosh, Cortland, Gala, Fuji, Macoun, Jonaprince, Ruby Mac, Pink Lady and Ambrosia, plus heirlooms such as Roxbury Russet and Calville Blanc d'Hiver. By October 1, 2026, nearly every variety was ripe on the trees.
The farm stand sells apples, peaches, cider, honey, sugar pumpkins, decorative pumpkins and gourds, and sunflowers in late summer, with maple syrup from Harvard producers when it is available. In November and December the farm switches to cut-your-own Christmas trees.
The Upton Flower Kitchen in Upton is about 40 minutes south by I-495, so a morning of apple picking in Harvard can lead into an afternoon farther south.
