Water

Your farm keeps one pool of stored water (💧 in the status bar). Rain, wells and irrigation refill it; hand watering, greenhouses, the Flower Farm and mapped rows draw on it. Each growing area uses it a little differently.

Overview

All your crops share one supply of stored farm water. A new farm starts with 20. You can see it in the 💧 circle of the status bar. Storage, wells and the weekly water budget are explained on the Water Security page; this page shows how each growing area uses water.

Where water comes from

  • Rain: about 8 stored water for each inch of rain in the week.
  • Wells on the Farm Map add water every week.
  • A working Drip Irrigation field upgrade adds 3 water a week and keeps field plots evenly moist (+8 moisture each week).
  • Storage has a ceiling: water tanks and wells raise it.

How each area uses water

AreaWateringNotes
Lavender field2 water, +40% moistureOnly allowed when the plant needs it: below 45% for young plants (first 8 weeks), below 35% once established. Paused before rain, in frozen soil and while dormant.
Greenhouse2 water (1 with Automatic irrigation), +36% moisture (+24% with a Controlled mist bench)Greenhouse plants are watered when their media is below 42%.
Flower Farm1 water per bed, +34% moistureNot allowed at 88% or wetter. A Drip line plus a Well on the map tops up beds under 58% each week.
Perennial GardenFree: waters the whole bedUses no stored water. Rain falls on some weeks; a bed stays watered for a few weeks.
Diversification plotsNo wateringEnterprise crops just grow week by week.

Moisture and growth

  • A lavender plant only grows in a week when its soil moisture is above 20% and below 88%.
  • Very dry (under 15%) or soggy (over 88%) soil costs 10 health in a week.
  • Flower Farm beds take stress under 30% or over 84%, and more under 18% or over 92%.
  • A heat wave of 90°F or more costs field plants 3 health if moist, or 13 if the soil is at 35% or less.

Tips

  • Do not water by the calendar: Inspect first. The game blocks watering a plant that does not need it.
  • Install drip lines and a well before you expand: greenhouses and flower farms use the most water.
  • If you are short on water, let rain do the work and water only young plants.

Real-world note

Lavender hates wet feet. The game's guide reminds you that if rain is coming it will stop you from watering, because soggy roots rot.
