Salem County is the quiet, farm-heavy corner of South Jersey, where Route 40 crosses flat fields between Woodstown, Pilesgrove and the Delaware River. Field & Flock Lavender Farm on Williams Road opens two fields to visitors during its posted hours and makes oils and soaps on site. Copper Knoll Farms near Elmer grows 13 lavender varieties alongside elderberries and log-grown mushrooms and opens its farm store on select days. Farther north, on the Voorhees and Gibbsboro line, Lamorè Lavender sells its salts, sugars and mists at the Collingswood Farmers Market on Saturdays in season.
The rest of the day can be very local: the Cowtown market, running since 1926, is three miles from Field & Flock, and the 19th-century river forts and lighthouse at Pennsville are about 25 minutes west.
