About Fruitwood Orchards Honey
Fruitwood Orchards Honey grew out of the Wright family's fruit farm. The family has farmed in the Delaware Valley since the 1800s and first kept bees to pollinate its own fruit trees. Over time they began placing hives on neighboring farms for pollination, a side of the business that eventually outgrew the fruit, and started extracting honey that they first sold from a small covered table at the roadside. Today the business runs from New Jersey and Florida, with its New Jersey base on Elk Road in Monroeville.
The honey is sold raw and unfiltered, with nothing added, and the family says it keeps extraction heat below the temperature inside a beehive. There are close to 20 varieties, sold liquid or crystallized and in several sizes. The lighter honeys taste mild and the darker ones are bolder, so it is worth comparing a few. The shop also carries bee pollen, honey spreads, honeycomb, maple syrup and gift baskets.
The Elk Road office keeps weekday hours, with a midday break, so plan a weekday stop and call ahead if you want to be sure someone can help you shop in person. Orders can also be placed through their website for shipping.
Copper Knoll Farms in Pittsgrove is about 6 miles south, roughly 12 minutes away, and Field and Flock Lavender Farm in Woodstown is a short drive west, so honey and lavender make a natural South Jersey pairing.
