About Morris House Hotel

Morris House Hotel is a small boutique hotel in a Philadelphia townhouse built in 1787 and named for the Morris family, who lived in it for more than 120 years. The family traces its roots to Anthony Morris, an early colonist who helped found the city, and the house was named a National Historic Landmark in 1967. A 1914 restoration returned its north and south faces to their original look, and land from a demolished neighboring house became the garden.

Rooms range from standard and luxury rooms to mini suites, extended suites with a queen pull-out in the living room, and a Wedding Suite with a spiral stair to a loft and an outdoor balcony. Stays include a continental breakfast, afternoon tea and cookies from 3 p.m., free Wi-Fi and a 24-hour concierge. The hotel sits on South 8th Street, a short walk from the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall, so most of the historic district is easy to reach on foot.

There is no on-site parking. The Walnut Towers Garage across the street gives a 15% discount when the front desk validates your ticket, and bags can be dropped at the St. James Street entrance. Pets are not allowed, cribs are not available, and an adult over 21 must check in for each room. A small guest office by the front desk has a computer and printer.

Lamorè Lavender in Gibbsboro, New Jersey, is about 30 minutes east across the Delaware River. It sells its lavender salts, sugars and bath goods online and at a weekly farmers market rather than through farm visits, so check its website before planning a stop.
