About Balić Winery

Balić Winery sits on Route 40 in Mays Landing, on a vineyard that descendants of early Mays Landing settlers planted in the early 1900s. Savo Balić, a grape grower from the Adriatic coast, bought the 57-acre property in 1966, and his nephew Bojan Boskovic, who came from Europe in 1993, now works as the winery's wine technologist. The winery marks its 60th year in 2026.

The list is long and a little unusual. Alongside dry reds and whites, semi-sweet wines, rosé and sparkling wine, Balić makes fruit wines from pomegranate, black aronia, huckleberry, pumpkin and mango, plus holiday and aperitif wines. Tastings are complimentary every day, and the winery is open seven days a week, so it is easy to stop in on a drive to or from the shore.

Out back, the Mediterranean Terrace looks over the vines, and you are welcome to bring your own lunch; only outside alcohol is off limits. Dogs and kids are welcome with adult supervision. The fall 2026 calendar includes a yoga and wine evening and live music on weekends around Thanksgiving, and a summer festival with a live band has been a past highlight. Party buses and bachelor or bachelorette parties are not allowed, and groups larger than six should call ahead.

Copper Knoll Farms in Pittsgrove, which grows lavender and distills it into oil and hydrosol, is about 45 minutes west and opens its farm store on select days. Check its schedule, then save Balić for an afternoon picnic and tasting.
