About Carroll Villa Hotel

Carroll Villa is a 19-room hotel on Jackson Street in Cape May's historic district, in a building that dates to 1882 and is listed as a national historic building. Each room is decorated differently, from queen and king rooms to a two-room suite, and every room has a private bath. The beach is about half a block away, and the hotel lends beach chairs and umbrellas.

The hotel's restaurant, the Mad Batter, is the bigger draw for many visitors. It serves breakfast, lunch and dinner in a sky-lit dining room, a garden terrace room and on the front porch overlooking Jackson Street. Its crab cake is the dish people come back for, and brunch regulars order Bloody Marys or mimosas made with fresh-squeezed orange juice. The Blue Batter Bar has live music nightly.

Carroll Villa calls itself child-friendly and family-run, and its restaurant has won local awards for brunch and for being kid-friendly. It is a walk-up building with no elevator, so guests who need to avoid stairs should ask about room location when booking. Pets are not accommodated, and the property is smoke-free.

Lavender Fields at Warrington Manor in Milton, Delaware, is the closest lavender farm, across Delaware Bay; take the ferry from North Cape May to Lewes, then drive about 20 minutes, roughly two to two and a half hours door to door. Plan it as a full day out from a Cape May stay.
