About The Mooring Bed and Breakfast

The Mooring has been taking in guests since 1882 and bills itself as Cape May Island's original guest house. It sits on Stockton Avenue in the historic downtown, one block from the beach and a short walk from the Washington Street Mall's shops and restaurants. The house mixes antique and contemporary furnishings, and a wide front porch with rocking chairs faces the street.

There are 10 rooms: two smaller standard queen rooms, six premium rooms with queen or king beds, and two king suites. All have private baths, air conditioning and ceiling fans. Premium rooms and suites come with an assigned parking space on site, which matters in a town where parking is tight in summer.

Breakfast is a full meal served outdoors on the veranda. Guests can borrow bicycles, beach chairs and towels, rinse off at the outdoor shower and use a guest kitchen. The house is smoke-free, porches included, and pets are not accommodated. The inn has no formal age limit but notes that children under 13 are usually happier elsewhere, so it suits couples and adults best.

Lavender Fields at Warrington Manor in Milton, Delaware, sits across Delaware Bay; take the ferry from North Cape May to Lewes, then drive about 20 minutes, roughly two to two and a half hours door to door.

What to do

  • Full breakfast on the veranda
  • Borrow a guest bicycle to ride around town
  • Walk one block to the beach with the inn's chairs and towels
  • Stroll to the Washington Street Mall
  • Relax in the rocking chairs on the front porch
