About Applewood Orchard
Applewood Orchard on Hamburg Avenue in southern Lakeville grows a long run of apples. First Kiss and Paula Red come first in mid to late August, Chestnut crabapples in the first week of September, Sweet 16 and Honeycrisp in mid to late September, Fireside (also called Connell Red) in early October, and a late keeper that ripens in late October and can store for up to a year. The orchard's original John Deere tractor still sits out in the sunflower field.
There's no fee to come pick; you pay only for what you take, by the pound, at prices posted at the orchard. Many varieties are sold both U-pick and pre-picked, and the Apples page on their website marks which are picking now, sparse or sold out, so look before you drive over. Honeycrisp is usually ready in mid to late September and goes quickly.
The pumpkin patch, hedge maze, corn pit and play set area are free, and hayrides run on Saturdays and Sundays. The corn maze and jumping pillow cost extra and are booked through their website. A sunflower field blooms earlier in the season, and the orchard's season notes promise mini donuts, photo spots and family events. Private events can also be arranged.
Lavender Barnyard is less than 2 miles east, about 5 minutes away, so the two are easy to combine on any day both are open.
