About Blue Bar
Blue Bar has been on the dunes above Porthtowan beach since 1999 and calls itself Cornwall's original beach bar and kitchen. Big bay windows and a large outdoor terrace look straight out over the surf and the north coast cliffs, and the room has a relaxed, shabby-chic feel that suits families, walkers and surfers coming off the sand.
It is open all year, with hours that shift with the seasons. The current published hours are 10am to 11pm Monday to Saturday and 10am to 10pm on Sunday, with food served from 10am to 9pm every day. Food is cooked to order: brunch and lunch through to dinner, a specials board with brunch dishes and locally baked cakes, and barista coffee. The bar pours local ales and cider alongside lagers, spirits and soft drinks. Sunset over the bay is a popular time to sit out on the terrace.
There are no reservations, so just turn up; the team says waits for a table are usually short even when it is busy. Well-behaved dogs are welcome on a lead, and there are water bowls on the terrace. A pay car park is about a minute's walk away, and there is some free parking on the lane (no overnight parking). A function room upstairs can be hired for private events.
Cornish Lavender, near St Agnes, is about 15 minutes away by road, so in summer you can walk the lavender in the morning and come down to the beach at Porthtowan for lunch or an evening meal.
