About The Driftwood Spars
The Driftwood Spars sits at Trevaunance Cove below St Agnes, in a building put up in the 1650s with timber beams said to have been salvaged from shipwrecks along this stretch of coast. Over the centuries it served as a tin-mining warehouse, a chandlery, a sail loft and a fish cellar before becoming a hotel bar in the early 1900s and a public bar in the 1940s. Today it brews its own beer in a small on-site brewery and pours it alongside other Cornish ales across two bars.
Food is served every day: noon to 8pm Monday to Thursday and Sunday, and noon to 9pm on Friday and Saturday, from an autumn and winter 2026 menu of homemade pub dishes. Meat comes from local butchers, and fish is often landed in the cove itself or at Newlyn. The kitchen holds an AA Rosette awarded in 2025, and Sundays bring roasts. The upstairs sea-view restaurant opens only for Sunday lunch in winter and adds more sittings in spring and summer.
Families have their own space in the Starboard Quarter, which has a jukebox and board games, and the pub runs live music and events through the year. Upstairs and in an annex are 15 en suite bed and breakfast rooms, five with sea views and four set up as family rooms, so it works as a base for a few days on the north coast.
Cornish Lavender near Perranporth is only a few minutes' drive up the coast, so lunch here pairs easily with a summer visit to the lavender fields.
