About Trevaskis Farm
Trevaskis Farm sits at Connor Downs, just east of Hayle in west Cornwall, and has been trading for more than 30 years. It pairs 28 acres of pick-your-own and farm park with a large farm market and the Farmhouse Kitchen restaurant. The farm rears its own British Lop pigs and South Devon cattle, and that meat goes to the in-house butchery and onto the restaurant plates.
The picking list is long: strawberries, gooseberries, red, white and black currants, cherries, raspberries, tayberries, loganberries, plums and blackberries, plus peas, mange tout, broad and runner beans and sweetcorn, with cooking apples later on. Polytunnels and tree shelter take the edge off the coastal wind. In October the fields switch to pumpkins. Entry is free, you pay only for what you pick, and there is no need to book. The farm park is open all year but is at its best from May to September.
The market opens 8am to 8pm every day except Christmas Day, with a butchery counter (homemade sausages, hog's pudding, home-cured bacon and gammon), a fishmonger, deli, dairy and bakery. The restaurant serves breakfast from 8:30am, lunch, cream teas and cake from noon to 3pm, an à la carte menu from 6pm Monday to Saturday, and Sunday roasts, for which booking is essential. Dogs on leads are welcome around the farm and on the patio, but not in the shop or restaurant.
Cornish Lavender, near St Agnes, is about 25 to 30 minutes northeast along the A30, so a summer day can start among the lavender and end with picking and supper at Trevaskis.
