About Cubed Espresso Bar

Cubed is a coffee stop with one of the best outlooks on the Tasman Peninsula. It works out of a caravan that started life in 1957 and has been restored into a solar-powered espresso bar, parked on top of the hill at the Pirates Bay lookout in Eaglehawk Neck. From the lookout you see the long curve of Pirates Bay and the sea cliffs beyond.

The coffee is small-batch roasted by a Tasmanian roastery, and the van sells handmade sweets to go with it. It is run by Sim and Mel and uses local products where it can; the business was a finalist in the 2015 Tasmanian EPA sustainability awards.

Cubed opens 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Thursday to Monday, and every day during Tasmanian school holidays, including public holidays. That makes it an easy first stop on the drive down the Arthur Highway, before the Tessellated Pavement, the Blowhole and Tasman Arch, all a few minutes away around Eaglehawk Neck.

Port Arthur Lavender is about 25 minutes farther south on the Arthur Highway, so a coffee at the lookout and a walk through the lavender fields fit neatly into a day on the peninsula.

What to do

  • Grab a coffee with a view over Pirates Bay
  • Pick a handmade sweet to go
  • Walk to the lookout rail for photos of the bay and cliffs
  • Pair the stop with the Tessellated Pavement and Tasman Arch nearby
