About Bangor Vineyard Shed
Bangor Vineyard Shed sits on a working farm at Dunalley, about 45 minutes from Hobart and the last winery before the Tasman Peninsula. The same family has looked after Bangor since 1890, and the property is run as both a farm and a nature conservation reserve. The hand-tended, cool-climate vines produce Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Riesling, rosé and sparkling, plus a reserve range.
The cellar door is open every day from 10am to 5pm, and you don't need a booking to taste. A daily cheese tasting matches local cheeses with the range. Other options can be booked: the Black Glass tasting of five wines with small bites, a wine and chocolate pairing, and a 45-minute vineyard walk with tastings among the vines, run Monday to Saturday (Sundays on request).
The restaurant serves lunch every day from local produce, and after 4pm lighter plates such as cheese platters and oysters are usually available. Families are well looked after, with high chairs, a children's menu, a cubby house, a sandpit and a large fenced lawn. The covered, heated deck and lawn picnic tables are walk-in only. Bangor also hosts weddings, meetings and private functions, and has a heritage cottage.
Port Arthur Lavender is about 35 minutes south along the Arthur Highway, so Bangor makes a natural lunch stop on the way to or from the lavender fields and the Tasman Peninsula.
