About Stewarts Bay Lodge & On the Bay Restaurant
Stewarts Bay Lodge is a collection of self-contained cabins and chalets set in bushland around a small white-sand bay just north of Port Arthur. A marked walking track runs from Stewarts Bay Beach past Ladies Bay to the Port Arthur Historic Site, about 15 to 20 minutes on foot, so you can leave the car at your cabin. The chalets have spa baths in the main bedroom en suites.
On the Bay is the lodge's waterfront restaurant, with an outdoor deck, two log fires and views across the bay. Dinner menus lean on Tasmanian seafood, Cape Grim beef and Tasmanian lamb, with native flavors such as pepperberry, saltbush and wattleseed, plus a vegetarian and vegan menu. Set packages in 2026 start at A$75 for two courses, and kids' meals are A$22 with a juice and ice cream. Bookings are essential for dinner.
Families do well here: there are tennis courts with borrowed racquets, an undercover barbecue, beach toys to borrow, and cots for hire. The lodge is also a base for the Three Capes Track and shorter forest and coastal walks. The property is a protected habitat for the endangered swift parrot, so pets are not allowed.
Port Arthur Lavender is only about 5 minutes up the highway, close enough for a morning walk through the fields and a lavender treat before the Historic Site.
