About Essentially Lavender

Essentially Lavender is a farm just north-west of Teeswater, at the south end of Bruce County. The land was first settled in 1869, and Bill and Cathy Kirk bought it in 2012; it takes in rolling hills, pastures, woodlots, a pond and a river. Alongside the lavender there are shrub and perennial gardens, a xeriscape garden, a labyrinth to walk and an apiary where you can watch honeybees at their hives. The Kirks hand-harvest their lavender to make small-batch, natural home and body care products.

Lavender here usually blooms from late June to mid-August, and essential oil distilling demonstrations run from late July through August. In 2026 the farm and its Lavender Boutique were open from May 15 to September 6. A self-guided tour with a farm map was $5 per person with no booking needed, and group tours for eight or more were $8 per person, booked ahead. Check in at the boutique when you arrive.

The 2026 calendar included a picnic in the lavender fields on July 4, a Flavours of South Bruce dinner by the fields on July 12, the Essential Lavender Festival on July 18, a spa facial day on July 24 and gentle yoga and garden tours on August 8 and 9. Limited lavender and wildflower honey is sold later in summer. The farm also rents bunkies for overnight stays in season.

J.R. Fear Apiaries near Wingham is about 15 minutes south-west for more local honey.
