About Golden Crown Panaderia

Golden Crown Panaderia is an old-fashioned neighborhood bakery on Mountain Road near Albuquerque's Old Town. Pratt Morales started it in 1972, and his son Christopher grew up in the bakery and now runs it alongside him. Its best-known loaf is green chile bread, and the cases also hold biscochitos in several flavors, wedding cookies and the pumpkin empanadas Pratt has been making since the 1970s.

Beyond pastries, the bakery makes pizza on a choice of three house doughs, roasts its own coffee (the roastery started in 2016), pulls espresso drinks and makes ice cream in house. It also bakes sandwich and specialty breads for restaurants and hotels around the city, and it has local beer on tap and wine.

The lobby is open Wednesday through Saturday 7 am to 8 pm and Sunday 10 am to 8 pm, and closed Monday and Tuesday. A cookie vending machine outside is stocked for pickup around the clock, which helps if you arrive on a closed day. You can also order ahead for pickup or have cookies and bread shipped.

Los Poblanos Historic Inn & Organic Farm is about 12 minutes north up Rio Grande Boulevard. Walk the Los Poblanos lavender fields in the morning, then come down for green chile bread and coffee before exploring Old Town.
