About Tomato Cafe

Tomato Cafe is a locally owned Italian restaurant on San Pedro Drive in Albuquerque's Northeast Heights that has been serving the city since 1993. The draw is an all-you-can-eat gourmet food bar with an exhibition kitchen, so you watch the pasta and pizza come together as you fill your plate.

The food bar includes soups such as roasted tomato basil and a vegetarian posole, spinach and ricotta ravioli, pastas and sauces, and pizzas, with non-dairy soft serve and toppings for dessert. Personal pizzas can be made on a gluten-free or cauliflower crust for an extra charge, and the kitchen marks its fresh vegetables and salad dressings as gluten-free. A daily pizza special rotates, from margherita to a green chile cheese pie.

Prices are set by age and time of day, which makes it easy on families: children 3 to 10 and seniors 65 and up pay less. The restaurant also caters and hosts private parties for birthdays, weddings and office events.

Los Poblanos Historic Inn & Organic Farm is about 18 minutes southwest. A lavender-field walk in Los Ranchos followed by a relaxed lunch here makes a simple half-day plan, especially with kids who like choosing their own plates.
