About Harker Family Orchard
Harker Family Orchard is Joe and Debbie Harker's farm on State Road 244, about three miles off I-74 between Shelbyville and Greensburg. The Harkers have sold sweet corn and produce from this spot since 1976. They raised hogs for years, then planted their first fruit trees in 2009, and the orchard now has more than 2,000 trees, about 60 percent of them peaches in over 90 varieties. Children and grandchildren help pick, and the family was honored as featured farmers at the 2025 Indiana State Fair.
The stand follows the fruit: strawberries from mid-May to mid-June, sweet and tart cherries and black raspberries from mid-June to early July, then peaches, nectarines and plums from July into August, with peak peach weeks in late July to mid-August. Apples run from August to early November, and the family presses cider on site from late August through October. Sweet corn and tomatoes fill the shelves from early July to September.
This is not a pick-your-own farm. Trained family pickers harvest everything by hand, and customers choose from coolers and shelves at the stand, since tractors work the orchard. A locked payment box is there for times when no one is at the stand.
White Diamond Lavender Farms, outside Hope, is roughly 20 minutes south, so a peach or cider stop here pairs well with a lavender visit.
