About Hopewell Valley Vineyards

Hopewell Valley Vineyards has been making wine in Pennington since 2001. Owners Sergio and Violetta Neri bring three generations of Tuscan winemaking to a 75-acre estate at the base of the Sourland Mountains, where 20 acres of vines grow in clay-loam soil. The plantings mix classic European grapes such as Chardonnay, Pinot and Barbera with varieties suited to New Jersey, including Vidal Blanc, Chambourcin and Traminette.

Flights of four wines are $16 plus tax, and wine is sold by the glass and bottle; flights may not be offered at peak weekend times, and walk-in guided tastings are not currently offered. Groups of 10 to 20 can book a tasting in advance, and private tours for groups of 10 or more cost $15 per person. Seating for everyday visits is first come, first served.

Weekends are lively here. Live music plays every weekend, and brick-oven pizza is served from 3 PM Friday, noon Saturday and 1 PM Sunday, with salads, burrata and other plates added Friday through Sunday and lighter fare during the week. The calendar also includes sangria-making classes, Sunday brunch pop-ups, goat yoga, board game nights, comedy and seasonal festivals. Children are welcome with close supervision but must stay out of the vines, and leashed dogs may join you outdoors.

Pleasant Valley Lavender in Morganville, about 50 minutes east, offers pick-your-own lavender and picnics in its fields, which pairs well with an evening of pizza and music here.
