About Unionville Vineyards

Unionville Vineyards farms land in the Amwell Valley that was once part of a large peach orchard, then an apple orchard, then a dairy. The farmhouse and the oldest part of the winery building date to 1858. The property was bought in 1980 to save the farm, the first vines went in in 1987, and the winery opened to the public on April 1, 1993. Today it grows more than 40 acres of vines across four preserved farms totaling over 300 acres, and is known for Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Rhône-style blends.

The tasting room is open every day from noon to 5. Guided tastings of six wines run Thursday through Monday and take 45 to 60 minutes, following the wine from vineyard to barrel to bottle. Wine by the glass, flights and bottles are available daily. Walk-ins are welcome when there is space, but groups of six or more need a reservation, and private tasting tours can be arranged by phone.

In season the picnic grounds are open noon to 5, and you can bring your own food there, though not indoors, along with leashed, quiet dogs. Children are welcome on the picnic grounds with their parents and can join a parent's guided tasting. Light snacks are sold in the tasting room, and the events calendar lists music and seasonal gatherings.

Pleasant Valley Lavender in Morganville is about an hour east. It offers pick-your-own lavender and picnics in its fields during the bloom, so a summer day can start there and end with a picnic at Unionville.
