About Lake House

Lake House began in 1984 as a 40-seat weekend restaurant at the swampy end of Lake Daylesford. Chef Alla Wolf-Tasker and her husband Allan, an artist and builder, bought the overgrown paddock in 1979 and spent four years of weekends building and planting it by hand. Four decades on it is a hotel, restaurant and spa, still run by the family, with daughter Larissa and her husband Robin Wilson now leading the hospitality side.

The restaurant looks over the lake through large windows, and the Lagoon Deck opens in warmer months. Dinner is served every evening and lunch Friday to Monday. In 2026 the multi-course à la carte menu is A$255 per person, with a three-course weekend Classics set menu at A$180 in spring. Much of the produce, from vegetables and herbs to honey, olive oil and sourdough, comes from the family's Dairy Flat farm, and before Monday lunch there is a free 45-minute farm tour at 11:30 a.m. The cellar holds around 13,000 wine labels.

Children's menus are available at lunch, and babysitting can be arranged with notice. The spa offers massages, facials and mineral soaks, and the hotel runs sourdough and beekeeping classes and winemaker lunches through the year. Bookings are taken online or by phone from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Lavandula Swiss Italian Farm at Shepherds Flat is about 15 minutes north of town, so a morning among the lavender and a long lunch by the lake fit together well.
