About Wombat Hill House

Wombat Hill House is a café tucked inside the Wombat Hill Botanic Gardens at the top of Daylesford, opened in 2011 by the team behind Lake House. The walls carry an enchanted-garden mural by Allan Wolf-Tasker, and the outdoor tables sit among the old trees of the gardens.

The menu changes often and follows the seasons, using produce from the Lake House family's Dairy Flat farm and local growers, with vegetarian and vegan dishes always on. Bread and pastries come from the farm's bake house, and there is breakfast to go, such as a farm croissant or a Reuben. Drinks run from coffee to seasonal juices, kefir, local sodas, cider, beer and wine.

The café opens daily from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. (2026). It does not take bookings, but takeaway and bake house boxes can be preordered through their website. You can order a picnic, borrow a basket and ask the staff for a good spot under the trees. The café calls itself dog and family friendly. A 10% surcharge applies on Sundays and 15% on public holidays.

Lavandula Swiss Italian Farm at Shepherds Flat is about 15 minutes north, so a picnic in the botanic gardens and an afternoon among the lavender make an easy Daylesford day.
