About Maiden Rock Cidery & Orchard

Maiden Rock Cidery & Orchard grows dozens of apple varieties outside Stockholm, from old names like Wolf River, Northern Spy, Wealthy and Golden Russet to newer favorites such as Honeycrisp, Zestar! and Sweet 16, plus Dolgo and Chestnut crabapples. Visitors can pick their own with a basket, or staff will help choose fruit.

Picking follows the trees. Paula Red, Zestar! and Dolgo crabapples come first in August; September is the peak, with Honeycrisp, Cortland, McIntosh, Haralson and a dozen more; October brings Northern Spy, Golden Russet, Honeygold and Liberty; and Cortland and Empire can last into November.

The tasting room serves flights of small-batch, gluten-free hard ciders in a rustic setting. The lineup includes a semi-sweet Honeycrisp cider finished with honey, a sweet Red Hawk with hibiscus and spices, a semi-dry Crabby Cider made from Dolgo crabapples and Scrumpy, a dry farmhouse blend that changes each year. Stronger bottlings include Royal Cider, a pommeau-style dessert wine fortified with apple brandy, and a Dolgo crabapple blush wine with Frontenac and Sabrevois grapes poured only at the bar. The shop sells apple jam, zesty apple salsa and four-packs to go. Guided orchard tours can be booked by phone, and the farm hosts weddings, birthdays and family gatherings.

Lavender Bluff Farm is also in Stockholm, just a few minutes away on the Great River Road, so a summer or early-fall visit can include both the lavender fields and the orchard.
