About Stockholm Pie & General Store
Stockholm Pie & General Store started as a little weekend pie shop run by a grandmother who had moved to Stockholm and was known for her baking. It sits in a building more than 100 years old on the Great River Road, within sight of the Mississippi, and the same family still makes every pie by hand, with a from-scratch crust built on a recipe she learned from a friend in rural Kansas. National food press has repeatedly ranked it among the best pie shops in the country.
Daily slices cover fruit pies such as apple, cherry, bumbleberry and blackberry raspberry, cream pies like chocolate, coconut and sour cream raisin, and a peanut butter fudge pie. Seasonal pies rotate through rhubarb in spring and pumpkin flavors in fall. Whole pies come in more than two dozen flavors but are made by special order, so call or order ahead at least 48 hours before you visit.
The café also serves lunch: sandwiches such as a salmon smörgås on rye, a Nordic salad, soup of the day, chicken pot pie and a Swedish hand pie of beef, potato and cheese. There is Wisconsin-made ice cream, a pie shake and an espresso bar. The general store and a Wisconsin foods marketplace fill the rest of the building, and the shop hosts pie flights, pairings and classes at the Stockholm Opera Hall.
Lavender Bluff Farm is in the same village a few minutes away, so a slice of pie and a walk in the lavender make an easy afternoon along the river.
