About The Stone Barn

The Stone Barn is an outdoor pizza farm in Norwegian Valley, on the back roads outside Nelson. The Olson family once farmed more than 1,000 acres here, and their barn, built in 1896, collapsed in the 1980s, leaving only its stone walls. Pam Taylor bought the farm in 1991, restored the Victorian brick house and outbuildings, and in 2006 opened a restaurant inside the old stone foundation. Matt and Marcy Smith started working there around 2014 and took over in 2016; 2026 is the restaurant's 20th season.

The season runs from the first weekend of May (May 1 in 2026) through October or early November, until snow closes it. Pizza comes from outdoor wood-fired ovens with a thin crust, and the barn also serves cocktails, beer, wine, seltzers and ice cream. Hours are Friday 5–9, Saturday noon–9 and Sunday noon–8, and those are ordering times, so you can linger after.

Seating is first come, first served and mostly covered, and on warm weekends the wait can top an hour. People fill the time on the hiking trails, visiting the goats, playing yard games on the terrace or browsing the gift shop. Leashed dogs are welcome in the three big outdoor seating areas. The site is ADA accessible, with drop-off at the door and accessible parking by the fence. Groups of 20 or more should let the barn know ahead, and private events can be booked.

Lavender Bluff Farm in Stockholm is about 30 minutes west by county roads and the Great River Road, which makes a summer afternoon at the lavender farm and an evening pizza an easy pairing.
