About Oakwood Fruit Farm

Oakwood Fruit Farm sits on the ridges and coulees just east of Richland Center, in Wisconsin's Driftless Area. Albert Louis planted the first trees in 1904, and the fifth generation of his family now works the orchard, which has grown to more than 180 acres. A fire destroyed the farm buildings in 2010, and the family rebuilt right away, bakery included; the farm marked 120 years in 2024.

The orchard grows more than 20 apple varieties that ripen one after another from August into fall, including Ginger Gold, McIntosh, Honeycrisp and Fuji, with 10 to 12 kinds picked and bagged in the farm store at the peak. Baking apples and crisp eating apples sit side by side, and staff will help you choose. Grapes are pick-your-own from August through October, with Concords ready around mid-September, and fresh apple cider usually arrives around Labor Day weekend.

The bakery is famous for its apple cider donuts and also turns out turnovers, cookies, cake rolls, caramel apples and take-and-bake pies. The store carries local cheese and sausage and a gift shop of Wisconsin products, and the farm holds a customer appreciation weekend in early October.

The nearest lavender listing, The Lavender Experiment, is about 20 minutes north, but it does not publish visitor hours. For a lavender visit in summer, New Life Lavender & Cherry Farm in Baraboo is about an hour east, and Oakwood's August opening fits the end of that season.
