About The Berry Farmer
The Berry Farmer is a family-owned berry farm on Hoot Owl Road, about two and a quarter miles west of Baraboo in the valley country below the Baraboo Hills. It started in 1998 and has grown steadily since, to about 10 acres of strawberries, an acre and a half of peas and roughly an acre and a third of blueberries.
Strawberries come first, in the early summer, and you can pick them yourself or buy them already picked. Peas follow the same way, picked by you or by the crew. Blueberries come later and are pick-your-own only; in 2025 they sold for $3.75 a pound, and the last scheduled picks fell at the end of July and the first weekend of August. Picking days depend on what is ripe, so the farm announces each pick ahead of time.
This is a working field farm rather than an attraction: there are no rides or play areas, just rows of berries and peas. Because picks are scheduled around ripeness and weather, the farm posts each upcoming picking day and its hours on their website and social pages, and on a busy patch it pays to arrive near the start time. The short drive from downtown Baraboo makes it easy to fit in before a hike at Devil's Lake.
New Life Lavender & Cherry Farm is about 10 minutes away on the southwest edge of Baraboo, so an early berry pick and a lavender stop can share one summer morning.
