About Bekah Kate's

Bekah Kate's is a kitchen and home store just off the courthouse square in downtown Baraboo. Rebekah (Bekah) and Mark Stelling opened it on May 7, 2004, in a restored 1886 building that counts toward the Downtown Baraboo Historic District. The name comes from a nickname only Bekah's mother used, and the shop grew from Bekah's years as a buyer for a Madison china store and a family love of cooking.

Shelves run from cast-iron pans and good knives to baking gear, olive oils and vinegars, herb dips, teas, kids' kitchen items and Wisconsin-themed gifts. The store also builds gift baskets and keeps a gift registry, which makes it a useful stop for wedding or hostess gifts on a weekend in the Baraboo Bluffs.

Cooking classes are held right in the store. Recent listings have covered cast-iron cooking, sourdough, holiday appetizers with cocktails and mocktails, Christmas treats and gingerbread decorating, with some classes led by guest chefs. Kids' classes have been listed at $25 and adult classes at $35 to $40, and groups can ask for a private class. The owners also run the Downtown Baraboo Wine Walk.

New Life Lavender & Cherry Farm is about 10 minutes southwest of downtown on County Road W, near the Highway 12 bypass. Pair the two on a summer day, then browse the shop and the square before dinner.
