About Old School Ice Cream

Old School Ice Cream is a summer stand on Main Street in Ferdinand, run by Andy and Amy Hagedorn with help from their kids. The window is a restored 1963 Ford bus that Andy bought in Kentucky and rebuilt, parked on the lot where his father ran a gas station and auto repair shop for 50 years. Andy grew up on this corner, and the family opened the stand on June 11, 2026.

The bus serves up to 12 ice cream flavors at a time, sourced locally, along with concession-style food: chili dogs, smashburgers and soft pretzels. Menu items carry playful names, such as the Jack and Diane chili dog and the Good Intentions peanut butter fudge. Live music is planned when possible, and on select Sundays the family gives part of the day's profits to a local cause.

In 2026 the stand kept evening and weekend hours: Thursday and Friday 5 to 9 p.m., Saturday noon to 9 p.m., and Sunday 1 to 5 p.m., with the season running through September. Expect it to return with warm weather, and check local news or their social pages for the next opening date.

White River Lavender Farm near Jasper is about 30 minutes northwest, so a summer evening cone in Ferdinand works well after a lavender visit.
