About The Glenwood
The Glenwood occupies an early-1900s building in Onekama that has served as a summer lodge, a hotel and a restaurant. Donna Ervin and Chris Short, both Michigan natives, bought the lakeside restaurant in 1994 and have kept the building close to how it looked in its early days. Donna runs the dining room and makes the desserts; Chris runs the kitchen.
It is a dinner restaurant, and the menu leans on Great Lakes fish: smoked whitefish dip to start, Parmesan or Rockefeller whitefish, and a fried perch tower with house tartar sauce. Steaks include a blue cheese filet mignon, and there is braised short rib over portabella ravioli. Entrées come with a Woodland or Caesar salad. The dessert tray carries more than a dozen choices a day, from triple berry pie to frozen peanut butter pie. A children's menu includes a small sundae, and the bar has cocktails, Michigan wines and beer.
The Glenwood is seasonal and has closed for 2026. It plans to reopen for dinner on May 7, 2027, and run through September 5. Its dressings, sauces and jams are sold at the Glenwood Market in Manistee and online.
Cherry Hill Lavender Farm near Frankfort is about 35 minutes north along M-22. Its gardens are free to visit during open hours, which in fall 2026 are Wednesdays noon to 4 from October 7 to December 16; check their website for summer days. A summer afternoon at the farm and dinner here make a good day along the shore.
