About The House Paddock
The House Paddock is a family business on King Street in Scottsdale, the main town of Tasmania's north-east. Owners Fiona and Scott Auton both come from farming families and run the store with their three children. Their aim is to give local farmers, makers and creators a shop window, so much of what is on the shelves comes from the north-east and the rest of Tasmania.
The café opens early and serves a light menu that changes daily: sandwiches, ciabattas, focaccias and toasties, soups in winter, and homemade cakes, muffins and biscuits, with coffee from trained baristas. The kitchen runs from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., and after that it is cake and toast until close at 5 p.m.
Around the café, the deli carries Tasmanian produce and artisan groceries, and the store fills out with homewares, candles, ceramics, body products and gifts by local artists. They also put together hampers of Tasmanian produce and catering platters, and the staff are glad to suggest places to see in the area.
Bridestowe Estate, the historic lavender estate at Nabowla, is about 20 minutes west on the Tasman Highway, so The House Paddock works well as a breakfast or lunch stop on the same drive.
