About Amavi Cellars

Amavi Cellars makes all of its wine from its own certified sustainable vineyards in the Walla Walla Valley, and the name blends the Latin roots for love and life. The tasting room is on Peppers Bridge Road in the Southside district, where the decks look out over the vineyard toward the Blue Mountains. The winery is celebrating 25 years and makes seven wines: Semillon, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon year-round, a Cabernet Franc rosé released in spring, two wines for club members, and a 100 percent Syrah from Stone Valley Vineyard released each late February in very small amounts.

Hours are Sunday through Thursday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. A tasting is $20 and is refunded when you buy two bottles; the flight is four wines plus a featured fifth. Plan on about 75 minutes. Reservations are not required, and walk-ins are taken when there is room, but booking holds a time and a seating area: indoors, the East Deck, the dog-friendly North Deck, a private gazebo, or the lower patio, which is open for tastings on Saturdays and by appointment other days.

Families and children are welcome, though everyone in the party counts toward the reservation. Chocolate and cheese pairings can be added to any flight, and picnic tables on the lawn can be reserved by phone for up to four people, with wine sold by the bottle; outside food is not allowed. Groups of eight or more can be hosted, sometimes with a deposit.

Blue Mountain Lavender Farm in Lowden is about 25 minutes west on US Highway 12, with more than 25 varieties and a summer boutique, so a July visit can cover both.
