About Appleton Chocolates
Appleton Chocolates began in 1997 in a one-bedroom cabin in Appleton, in Nova Scotia's Wentworth Valley, and still makes its 13 truffles from that first recipe. Michael and Heather Foote took the business over in 2014, moved it to Tatamagouche in 2016 and opened the current Main Street showroom in May 2018.
The chocolates lean on Maritime flavors: Nova Scotia wild blueberries, cranberries, cherries and maple syrup. Truffle centers like maple cream, maple walnut and blueberry are hand-rolled and dipped in French dark, Belgian milk or Belgian white chocolate, then wrapped in foil colored by flavor. The cases also hold bars, bark, caramels and gift boxes.
The shop is open year-round. Their website lists Monday to Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., while the provincial tourism listing shows shorter winter days from January to April and a break from December 25 to mid-January. It is wheelchair accessible and takes debit, Visa and Mastercard. Chocolate bars were listed at $11.95 CAD on their website in October 2026.
Seafoam Lavender Company is about 20 minutes east along Route 6. Pick up a box of truffles in the village before or after a visit to the lavender gardens.
