About Seafoam Lavender Company & Gardens
Seafoam Lavender Company & Gardens is a small, family-owned lavender producer on Highway 6 in Seafoam, near River John on Nova Scotia's Northumberland Strait shore. The family grows lavender in rows on the farm and turns it into soaps, skin care, bath products, aromatherapy items, culinary goods and home and garden pieces, sold from the farm store and online.
The farm store is open every day from noon to 5 p.m., from Mother's Day weekend through the second weekend of October, with no appointment needed. Outside that season you can shop by appointment. The big moment of the year is the u-pick: for about ten days, usually around mid-July, the production field opens for visitors to cut their own bouquets. The timing moves with the weather, and the farm posts updates on its social pages.
U-pick bouquets are priced by size: 5 CAD plus tax for each inch of stem diameter, measured at the base. An inch is roughly 75 stems and takes 20 to 30 minutes to cut. The farm hands out scissors, a measuring tool, rubber bands and instructions; check in at the information booth or the cashier in the Visitors' Centre. The farm does not sell ready-made fresh bouquets, and fresh lavender wilts within a day or two, so for a lasting bunch the farm suggests drying it, which takes about a week.
Lismore Sheep Farm in River John is about 10 minutes away, an easy pairing with a summer visit.
