About Best Vineyards Winery & Distillery
Best Vineyards started when Wilbert, with his sisters Rachel and Berretta, bought a farm in the hills near Elizabeth in 2000 and planted 2,500 vines in April 2002, far more than the single acre they were advised to start with. The vineyard grows Chambourcin, Chardonel and New York Muscat, and the winery came after the first harvests.
The 2026 list runs from dry to sweet. On the dry side are a Chambourcin, a Cabernet Franc called Blitz's Best, Syrah and Cabernet blends, and a crisp County White. The sweeter half leans on fruit: blackberry from their own canes, black and red raspberry, plum, peach, rhubarb and a spiced apple. Two port-style wines, Crystal Flame and Strawberry Flame, are fortified with brandy.
The distillery side makes an Indiana straight bourbon, white and spiced rums, a jalapeño vodka, and liqueurs from peach, blackberry, caramel apple and lemon. Indiana law requires a small fee for spirit samples, so a spirits tasting of up to five samples costs $5. Wine is sold by the bottle with case discounts.
From May through October 2026 the winery also poured at the Corydon Farmers Market on Friday evenings. Lavender Creek Farm in Corydon is about 20 minutes west, making it easy to visit the lavender farm store and then head into the hills for a tasting.
