About Burn 'Em Brewing
Burn 'Em grew out of a group of friends home-brewing and incorporated in 2013. Brewing on a 7-barrel system, it has turned out more than 700 recipes, many of them experimental, with fruit, spices, chocolate and even spruce tips. Its beer labels are drawn by artist and musician Max Clarke, and its cans are sold around Indiana and in parts of Michigan.
The taproom on East 2nd Street pours 24 taps of house beer alongside alcoholic seltzers, seltzer cocktails, guest cider and wine, and craft sodas. The scratch kitchen buys from nearby farms and leans Cajun: pretzels with beer cheese, crawfish étouffée, catfish po' boys, walleye fish and chips, and a black bean vegan burger. Sunday brunch runs from 10 to 3, and weekday happy hour (Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, 3 to 6) brings $5 pints.
Kids are welcome throughout and have their own menu, and dogs are welcome on the patio. The events calendar is busy: live bands, comedy nights, karaoke, weekly trivia and bingo, a Halloween party and workshops such as a beginner bonsai class.
Lakeside Lavender and Herbs near La Porte is about 20 minutes southeast. In summer, pick lavender and walk the small labyrinth there, then come back toward the lake for dinner.
