About Shady Creek Winery

The Schwartz family relaunched Shady Creek in 2019 on a 20-acre property outside Michigan City, with a new building that holds the tasting room, a restaurant, fireplaces and covered porches. The winery makes more than 30 wines from grapes sourced in California's Russian River Valley, Lodi and Sierra Foothills, and from Michigan's Leelanau Peninsula and Lake Michigan Shore, including Pinot Grigio grown in Baroda. Four of its wines won awards at the Indy International competition in 2019.

Food is a big part of a visit. You order at the bar, and the kitchen cooks seasonal dishes from local ingredients, with a brunch menu as well. Seating spreads across indoor tables, patios and a creekside lawn. Reservations are strongly encouraged for indoor tables and can be made through their website; outdoor seats are first come, first served.

The calendar mixes live music on weekends with ticketed events such as charcuterie workshops, trivia nights and fondue dinners. Guests of all ages are welcome, though the setting is aimed at adults, and anyone who looks 40 or younger is asked for ID. Leashed dogs are allowed in the outdoor spaces. Parties larger than 14 and tour buses should email the winery ahead.
