About Froehlich's
Froehlich's is a small group of food shops along North Elm Street in downtown Three Oaks, a village in Michigan's Harbor Country a few miles inland from the lake. The bakery at 26 North Elm turns out house-made bagels, baguettes and rye loaves, French macarons, cookies, creme brulee and celebration cakes, and roasts its own coffee to go with them.
Across the street at 19 North Elm, a newly renovated space holds a restaurant and bar serving lunch and dinner, a deli that builds sandwiches on fresh-baked sourdough or multigrain bread, and a pantry of jams, preserves, candies and house-roasted coffee. Froehlich's has been feeding Three Oaks for more than 30 years. A third shop, Sweet on Elm at 15 North Elm, opens on weekend afternoons for sweets. The bakery also takes orders for birthday and wedding cakes and caters events, and a space called 19 North hosts private gatherings.
Hours are tied to the weekend crowd. The bakery runs Thursday through Sunday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., the kitchen and pantry from noon on Thursday and 10 a.m. Friday through Sunday until 5 p.m., and Sweet on Elm from 1 to 7 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Everything is closed Monday through Wednesday. Their macarons and creme brulee are made gluten-free.
Lavender Bliss Flower Farm near Bridgman is about 9 miles north. Pick up bagels and coffee here in the morning, then head up for lavender and cut flowers.
