About Chocolaterie de l'Île d'Orléans
The Chocolaterie de l'Île d'Orléans makes its chocolates by hand in a workshop beside its shop on chemin Royal in Sainte-Pétronille, at the western tip of the island. The chocolatiers work with Belgian chocolate and turn out bars, pralines, boxed assortments and seasonal creations, some flavored with products from the island and the rest of Quebec. A selection of vegan items is also available.
The shop and its ice cream counter are open every day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The ice cream side opens as soon as winter ends and runs through September, and its best-known treat is soft ice cream dipped in the house chocolate. Coffee and hot chocolate are served too, and you can take them out to the terrace, which looks over the island's farmland.
It's a short walk to rue Horatio-Walker, where the shop says you'll find one of the best views of Québec City across the river. The shop also stocks local specialties, sweets and gift boxes, and in summer the company runs a second counter in the village of Saint-Laurent.
La Seigneurie de l'Île d'Orléans in Saint-François is about 30 minutes east along chemin Royal. On a mid-July day you can start at the lavender fields at the far end of the island and finish here with a dipped cone.
