About Vignoble de l'Isle de Bacchus

The vineyard takes its name from Jacques Cartier, who called the island Isle de Bacchus in 1535 after the wild vines he found there. Founded in Saint-Pierre in 1982, it is one of the pioneers of Quebec wine. Today it farms 11 hectares, about 35,000 vines in three parcels, planted to Vandal-Cliche, Sainte-Croix, Geisenheim, Maréchal Foch, Éona, Vidal, Acadie blanc, Frontenac blanc and Marquette.

The list covers a traditional-method sparkling wine, dry whites and reds, including a red aged 18 months in American oak, the Filles du Roy rosé, a kir-style aperitif and a fortified wine with Canadian whisky and maple syrup. The standout is Jardin de Givre, an ice wine from Vidal and Geisenheim that won the Grand Or at the 2020 Coupe des Nations; a late-harvest wine is pressed from the same grapes.

Tastings and wine by the glass are served in the shop. On the bistro terrace you can order a wine-and-cheese tasting or boards of Quebec cheeses and cured meats, plus sangria; boards for 12 or more need a reservation, and picnics aren't allowed on site. Guided outdoor vineyard tours with a commented tasting are by reservation, and during the late-September to mid-October harvest the vineyard runs volunteer harvest days with lunch, booked from August 15.

La Seigneurie de l'Île d'Orléans is about 30 minutes east along chemin Royal, so the two fit into one island loop with a designated driver.
