About Frank's Cider House & Café
The Clark family has grown apples and pears at Franklin, in the Huon Valley, since 1836. Their cider is named after Frank Clark, the third-generation orchardist, who planted many of the trees still picked today, and the fifth and sixth generations run the business now. The cider house sits on the Huon Highway in Franklin, about 40 minutes' drive from Hobart.
Tastings of the full cider range are free. The range includes a medium-sweet Summer Apple Cider made mostly from tree-ripened Golden Delicious, a sweet perry from heritage pear varieties, a cherry and pear cider and a drier raspberry and pear. Orchard tours, led by a member of the Clark family, run at certain times of the year. You can also walk through the Franklin Apple Museum and the grounds of nearby St Johns Church, where Frank Clark is buried.
The café serves coffee, cakes, Huon Valley salmon, cheese platters and a lunch menu of seasonal dishes made with local produce. Live music is held on Sunday afternoons, and at night the café can be booked for private functions of up to 100 people.
Campo de Flori, a small lavender farm at Glen Huon, is about 15 minutes away. Check their website for appointment times before combining the two.
