About Lavender Waves Farm
Lavender Waves Farm sits on old farmland in Wakefield, in the town of South Kingstown, that was once known as Gatewood Farm and later as Carpenter Farm. The current owner bought it in late 2016, planted corn in 2017 to prepare the ground, set a gazebo at the center in 2018 and planted the lavender in two rings around it in 2018 and 2019. The farm first sold lavender in 2020 over five Saturdays at peak bloom, helped by volunteers from a local garden club. Today there are more than 4,000 plants in ten varieties.
Peak bloom runs from late June into early August, with a lighter second bloom until October. A cut-your-own ticket costs $20 and includes one 8-ounce bundle, or a pre-cut bundle if the field is picked out; walking the field and visiting the animals without cutting is $5. Tickets are sold online by date and time slot or at the gate, visits go ahead rain or shine, and there is a short lavender talk at the gazebo at a quarter past each hour. Bring your own scissors and a basket.
About 60 animals live on the farm, including alpacas, a llama, sheep, a donkey, chickens, geese, ducks, a guinea hen and a peacock, and the farm even rents out camels. The calendar adds lavender yoga, sound baths, private tours, photo sessions, weddings and a culinary experience, and a farm suite on the property is available for overnight stays. The 2026 Halloween Fall Festival runs October 24 and 25 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with $8 admission. The gift shop sells lavender products and gifts.
Mews Tavern in Wakefield is about 10 minutes away for a meal after the field.
