About Beauty and the Bath

Beauty and the Bath fills a historic brick building on West Main Street in Wickford, the harbor village in North Kingstown. Owner Lori Lyons started working in the shop at 19, went on to manage it and then bought it, and has since repainted and built it into a village fixture.

The shelves are stocked with soaps, lotions, bubble baths, body washes, candles, fragrances and shaving accessories from makers such as Thymes and Primal Elements, alongside local and New England lines like Reynolds Barn goat milk soap and New England-made bath fizzies. There is a Del's Lemonade line too. The shop says its products are made in the USA and never tested on animals.

Past the soaps you'll find nightwear from brands such as Cat's Pajamas and Karen Neuberger, slippers and slipper socks, and one-size seamless bras and tanks, which makes it a good place for gifts. The shop is open seven days a week and takes phone orders as well.

Lavender Waves Farm in Wakefield is about 20 minutes south on Route 1. Pick lavender there in the morning during peak bloom from late June into July, then spend the afternoon walking Wickford's small streets and harbor.
