About Miller's Smorgasbord
Miller's Smorgasbord on Route 30 in Ronks calls itself Lancaster's original buffet, and its story goes back to 1929, when Anna Miller cooked chicken and waffles for truckers while her husband Enos repaired their rigs. Longtime employees Thomas and Beatrice Strauss bought the restaurant in 1948, renamed it Miller's Smorgasbord in 1957 and began the seven sweets and seven sours spread that is still on the table. Their children run the family company today.
The Traditional Smorgasbord Dinner centers on fried chicken, Anna's chicken and waffles, peel-and-eat shrimp, pot pie and a carving station. A lighter Soup, Salad and Bread Smorgasbord covers eight homemade soups and more than a dozen Lancaster County salads. Dessert leans on the family bakery, opened in 1973: shoofly pie, whoopie pies, sticky buns and chocolate pecan pie. Hours posted in 2026 are 11:30 AM to 7 PM Monday through Thursday, until 8 PM Friday and Saturday, and 11 AM to 7 PM Sunday, with brunch items until 2 PM on Sundays.
Reservations are recommended and get priority seating; they open 30 days ahead for parties of 25 or fewer, and larger groups book through group sales. Walk-ins are welcome but may wait at busy times. The Shoppes at Miller's next door include The Quilt Shop, with more than 1,000 handmade quilted pieces from Amish, Mennonite and local makers, and the Locally Made food shop, which sells the bakery's goods with local jams and coffee. Easter, Mother's Day and Thanksgiving bring special buffets, and the restaurant closes only on December 24 and 25.
Baron Hills Lavender Farm in Honey Brook is about 13 miles east. A morning at the lavender farm and a late lunch here fit easily into one day in Amish country.
